Simply put, every bit of self-help advice that has ever been told-written, read or said since 1930 has dripped directly out of the overflowing intellectual waterfall this book has generated.

Napoleon Hill was a millionaire before he wrote this book, and a millionaire after. Not your run-of-the-mill snake oil salesman who show up to coach CEOs with barely enough gas money to get home.

On the contrary, Hill was a self-made made who used his mid to attract wealth and abundance by first studying what others had done before him, in the positive and the negative.

This book begins with a narrative centered around the steps below that contains the very exercise your mind requires to trigger your pursuit, and reception of money:

  1. First. Fix in your mind the exact amount of money you desire. It is not sufficient merely to say “I want plenty of money.” Be definite as to the amount. (There is a psychological reason for definite- ness which will be described in a subsequent chapter).
  2. Second. Determine exactly what you intend to give in return for the money you desire. (There is no such reality as “something for nothing.”)
  3. Third. Establish a definite date when you intend to possess the money you desire.
  4. Fourth. Create a definite plan for carrying out your desire, and begin at once, whether you are ready or not, to put this plan into action.
  5. Fifth. Write out a clear, concise statement of the amount of money you intend to acquire, name the time limit for its acquisition, state what you intend to give in return for the money, and describe clearly the plan through which you intend to accumulate it.
  6. Sixth. Read your written statement aloud, twice daily, once just before retiring at night, and once after arising in the morning. AS YOU READ, SEE AND FEEL AND BELIEVE YOURSELF ALREADY IN POSSESSION OF THE MONEY.

I know this process may seem lame and redundant at first, but I assure you, brainwashing yourself in this way day-in and day-out is very much like the bodybuilder or Olympic swimmer visualizing themselves winning a competition before even stepping out onto the mat, or diving into the water.

In fact, when I met Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps in Atlantic City, I asked him if he really did this before each race as I had read. He told me he performed this visualization at least 15 times a day, even before brushing his teeth at night.

The rest of the book is filled with practical business advice such as:

  • What is best for you to sell, and why.
  • The 31 factors that lead to failure
  • The major attributes of leadership
  • How to identify and circumvent your weaknesses

I read this book because a friend of mine suggested it as the single most important book of his life. By the way, he is also a self-made man and earns 7-figures a year. You're damn right.

The bottom line is no matter what you have read or heard about practical self-improvement, this book has bundled it up within its covers, and pages. Enjoy!
